Explanation of the Precursor to "Stroff Park":
One fine morning--I think it was December 4, the day our craft paper was due--Casey and I were talking on the phone, and for some reason we came up with the idea that it would be cool to do an M.F.A. South Park, where crass insults were rife with literary references... for example, "Cartman's mom is a big fat fuck!" would be replaced with "Gertrude Stein is a big fat fuck!" and so on. Later that day, we were goofing off in modernism class, and I drew the panel.
In some ways I almost feel I should apologize for the first strip being kind of offensive--I certainly don't encourage the tendency to judge female authors based soley on appearance. It was really less of a commentary on Gertrude Stein's appearance than it was an attempt to demonstrate the tendency of the poets to get pissy and flippant during class. At any rate, I promise that the rest of the jokes in "Stroff Park" will be less amusing and more obscure.
(From left to right, the characters in this strip are Christine, Casey, Justin, and Nate.)
